New Communications and Multimedia Minister Gobind Singh Deo says his ministry will examine several major communications-related incidents, such as the blocks on several websites on polling night – including Malaysiakini’s own Undi.info.
The ministry will also collect reports on mobile phone bot attacks on polling day, which affected politicians and candidate on both sides of the political divide, as well as the massive telco data breach involving the personal data of 46.2 million Malaysians, which came to light last year.
In a statement on Facebook today, Gobind also said that several provisions under Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 – which critics believe was used to stifle dissent – will be reviewed, and proposed amendments taken into consideration.
