Tian Chua not keen on moving south, fine with not being fielded

GE14 | Although PKR vice-president Tian Chua said he would leave it to the leadership to decide his fate, he, however, indicated that moving south for the coming general election is not an option.
The two-term incumbent lawmaker also revealed that some leaders have set their sights on his current Batu parliamentary seat.
"I was told that being a national leader, I should be invited to explore other places, for example, to go to Johor,” he told a press conference in Batu Caves this evening.
“As for Batu, we heard many interested bodies wanting to contest here and definitely, tremendous pressure has been put on the top leadership because Batu is seen as a safe seat.
“It was not a safe seat 10 years ago, it was a stronghold of BN. The division of PKR Batu has worked hard to win the hearts and minds of the Batu people.
“I am confident we can retain Batu for PKR,” he added.
However, Tian Chua said whoever is fielded in Batu must be able to command the support of a multiracial electorate.
As for moving to Johor, the PKR leader pointed out that such a move did not make sense and hinted that he would rather not be fielded as a candidate in the election.
"I looked at the two main seats we have (in Johor), Tebrau and Ledang. Both our existing proposed candidates have been doing good work at the grassroots level.
"There is no need for a heavyweight to go there to win the seat. I think with their current good work, we can win the seats.
"There is no need to move the seats around just because we need to accommodate Tian Chua.
“I leave it to the national leadership to do the final changing if it ever happens. If I am not selected to contest in Batu, I am okay not to contest in this election,” he added.
Even if he is left out, Tian Chua said he would continue to support Pakatan Harapan. - Mkini
