Ku Nan: Call us crazy, but blueing up KL will remind voters

GE14 | BN may have drawn flak for putting up the coalition's blue flags and its propaganda billboards all over the Federal Territories before nomination day, but its regional chief remains adamant.
At a press conference today, incumbent Federal Territories Minister and Federal Territories BN chairperson Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor admitted BN has been labelled as "a bit crazy" for blueing up Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya ahead of the 14th general election.
He, however, claimed they are needed to remind the voters of BN's contributions.
"You can notice the whole of Federal Territories, we have created a blue waves and we have put up a lots of posters to tell the rakyat not only what we done for the Federal Territories, but tell the whole nation what had been done by this (BN) government," he told the media after announcing BN's candidates for the Federal Territories.
"A lot of people said that we are a little bit crazy for putting up posters everywhere," he said.
The message was also meant for outstation voters who will be going back their hometown to vote, he added.
"A lot of people never realise our population is within five million to seven million. Lots of them are not going to vote in Kuala Lumpur, so we have got to remind them what this government had done," he said.
BN's propaganda messages were particularly visible in Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya, especially with Tengku Adnan's posters erected all over the capitals. BN flags, together with banners bearing the words 'hidup BN' (long live BN) are visible everywhere in the capital.
In the past weeks ,the sight of the flood of blue flags have irked several residents in Taman Tun Dr Ismail, who took it upon themselves to remove the BN flags put up at their neighbourhood, leading them to be arrested by the police.
“They know that political parties are not allowed to put up flags until after nomination day (April 28), but the authorities have not done their job in removing them,” an annoyed resident told Malaysiakini last week.
Section 24B(4) of the Election Offences Act 1954 stipulates that campaign materials can only be exhibited during the campaigning period, which begins after nomination day and ends on polling day (May 9).

In the case of Putrajaya, the local authority Putrajaya Corporation (PPJ) was earlier reported as saying it had exercised its discretion in allowing BN flags to be put up before that, notably outside Pakatan Harapan chairperson Dr Mahathir Mohamad's office.
“(That case) is more to discretion. To me, it’s really not much of an issue,” PPJ president Hasim Ismail was reported as saying by Malay Mail. - Mkini
