GE14 | The DAP tonight confirmed that Lim Kit Siang will defend his parliamentary seat of Iskandar Puteri, which was renamed from Gelang Patah.
The announcement was made by his son, DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng, in a fundraising event for the Iskandar Puteri seat.
"I am pleased to announce, in my capacity as secretary-general, (it was) a unanimous decision by the central executive committee, we have decided to choose a candidate who can lead us to victory.
"I announce for Iskandar Puteri, saudara Lim Kit Siang," Guan Eng said to loud applause from those present tonight.
Kit Siang had repeatedly said his first choice was to defend the seat but was still open to changing seats if his party required him to do so for strategic purposes.
The Star previously reported that Kit Siang was set on going to Johor Bahru, with the English daily describing it as the "riskiest move of his political life".
There was also speculation that he would contest in Penang. The Star reported that banners mocking Lim's "seat-hopping" went up in George Town near where DAP was holding a ceramah.
In the last general election, Kit Siang defeated former Johor menteri besar Ghani Othman for the Gelang Patah seat. - Mkini
