Caretaker minister sacked in preemptive move ahead of GE14

GE14 | Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) has sacked caretaker minister in the prime minister's department Joseph Entulu Belaun from the party in an apparent preemptive move to prevent him from contesting in the 14th general election.
The announcement was made by PRS president James Jemut Masing at a press conference in Kuching tonight, flanked by party supreme council members.
Joseph was the deputy president of PRS and MP for Selangau.
James said the decision to expel Joseph from the party was unanimous.
"You have disobeyed against the party's decision not to nominate you as a candidate for the constituency of P214 Selangau," James told the press conference.
He said another reason for Joseph's sacking was due to his conduct as the party's deputy president.
"Through your speeches and conduct, you have brought the party into public ridicule and contempt and incited hatred and animosity against party leaders.
"Your conduct disrupted solidarity and unity of the party," he said.
The PRS leadership had repeatedly stated that it intended to drop Joseph and replace him with another candidate for the parliamentary seat of Selangau.
However, Joseph had been coy about the matter.
BN is expected to unveil its candidate list next week but Joseph's partyless position now makes it less likely for him to be nominated as a BN candidate against PRS' wishes.
According to Utusan Malaysia, James also announced the sacking of incumbent Lubok Antu assemblyperson William Nyalau Badak.
Three other supreme council members - Nyempah Sabot, Edwerd Kurik and Adriana Chumang - were also expelled.
Joseph won the Selangau seat with 12,040 votes to Sarawak Workers' Party's 4,485 votes and PKR's 3,891 votes in the 2013 general election.
Nomination day for the 14th general election has been fixed on April 28 while polling day will take place on May 9. - Mkini
