BN dares Harapan to debate on gov't debt, tells them to be brave

BN strategic communication department deputy director Eric See To has challenged Pakatan Harapan to a debate on the government's debt.
He also took a swipe at DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng in the process.
“Would any representative from Harapan be brave enough to take part in a public debate on the government debt with me?
“I hope Harapan leaders are not all debate-dodgers like Guan Eng and his Penang tunnel hide-away,” he added in a statement.
He was referring to MCA deputy president Wee Ka Siong's repeated challenge to Lim, who is the caretaker Penang chief minister, to debate on the undersea tunnel scandal.
Lim had dismissed the challenge, claiming that Wee was not on par with him in terms of rank. He wanted MCA president Liow Tiong Lai to issue the debate dare on the condition that it also includes the 1MDB scandal.
However, Wee claimed these were mere excuses to sidestep the debate on the tunnel scandal, which is being investigated by the MACC.
Wee also held a forum on the tunnel scandal in Bagan, Penang, which is Lim's parliamentary stronghold and invited both the caretaker chief minister and his father, DAP veteran Lim Kit Siang, to attend.
However, the pair did not turn up.
Meanwhile, See-To said Harapan has released numerous videos and articles on social media focusing on the government's debt.
“Just like their 40,000 phantom voters allegations in the last election which was later found to be false, they have misled the people on so many areas on the government debt to incite fear.
“Be fair to the people. Let all of us hear the true story - not half a story or worse, the wrong story.
“Shouldn't such a critically important issue deserve a proper debate?” he asked.
See-To also urged the media and civil society to support his call for the debate, pointing out that the government debt is one of Harapan's key campaign issues for the coming polls.
“They (civil society and media) should convince the opposition to be brave,” he added. - Mkini
