GE14 | PKR deputy president Azmin Ali's family drama continues to regale the election season, as his brother Azwan has vowed to run against him in the coming polls.
When contacted about his plan to run as an independent candidate, Azwan said he wanted to contest specifically to force his brother's defeat.
His campaign manifesto, he said, is "personal" – to expose Azmin's wrongs.
“I want to strip Azmin naked, and he will be bared naked. That is my manifesto, because (knowledge of) all his sins are now in my hands.
“I want to contest because he needs to be wiped out. That's because he is a leader that is the most hypocritical and the most wretched in Selangor. I don't want the Selangor people to continue to be fooled.
“Go ahead and vote the opposition, replace (caretaker prime minister) Najib Abdul Razak's government, but don't vote for Azmin.
"This is the reason why I have been urged, pushed and prodded by thousands of supporters to contest,” he said when contacted by Malaysiakini.
The former TV personality said he had the money to contest, and if he loses, would consider it a donation to Selangor.
Azmin's siblings have been the bane of PKR's election efforts, with sister Ummi Hafilda Ali in past elections sniping at party chief Anwar Ibrahim.
However, Ummi seems to have had switched sides this round, and Azwan is determined to step in to fill the void.
'Free rendang if I win'
Azwan claimed Selangor would be in for a “major disaster” should Azmin, the caretaker menteri besar, continue to govern the state, adding they would all die of drought due to the state's water woes, one of BN's pet complaints about the PKR-led government.
When asked where he would run, he said he would challenge his brother in whichever seat the latter chooses.
“I will see which hole Azmin contests in, and that will be where I will contest.
When asked if it was merely a gimmick, the popular entertainer said, “Just wait until April 28 (nomination day). I want everyone to be amazed when I submit my nomination form.”
He boasted everyone would be eagerly awaiting for him to campaign.
If he wins, he said, he would “treat everyone to Chef Diva's rendang.
“Everyone can come eat free of charge. I will hold a thanksgiving feast, which will be the first thing I do if I win.
When asked if his plans would strain family ties, he said that was his intention.
“Of course I want to strain it. I want to tell all the people who that wretched person is.
“At the very least I will split his votes. Choose to support him, or support his younger brother who wants to take him down.” - Mkini
