A Malay friend sent me this comment:
The Malaysian govt. allows, even encourages Muslims to convert non-Muslims to Islam. But it bans non-Muslims from converting Muslims to other religions.
Why? Are Muslims so weak in their faith or so bereft of reasoning or brainless they have to be protected? If so, then there must be something wrong in the way the so many Muslim religious bodies and hordes of religious middlemen are teaching Islam to their followers.
As I see it, Islam in Malaysia exists only because of compulsion, coercion, intimidation, enforcement and no exit. Without them, there would be few or no followers.
My comments : More crutches. More tongkat. Agama pun kena pakai tongkat.
In Indonesia, India and other places there is no such tongkat protection for Muslims.
Over 10% of the population in India is Muslim. Over 120 million Muslims. Yet in over two centuries of colonial influence extremely very few Indian Muslims converted to christianity or any other faith.
In Malaysia there is a tongkat for everything.
Even the Mufti of Perlis who frequently makes unthinking political statements has a big tongkat.
He is protected by the various syariah penal enactments. Disagree with them you can go to jail. Question them you can go to jail. If you are Shiah they can put you in jail.
So many tongkats.
