PAS MP defends Kamarul, says 'peeing' at sight of Dr M imaginary

PAS' Kuala Nerus MP Mohd Khairuddin Aman Razali has come forward to defend political analyst Kamarul Zaman Yusof who has become a target of social media ridicule.
This was after Kamarul targetted Dr Mahathir Mohamad's age during a live forum yesterday but became tongue-tied when the former prime minister popped up unannounced at the venue and sat directly in front of him.
Mohd Khairuddin said Kamarul's arguments at the forum on Mahathir's unsuitability to become prime minister again at age 93 were to the point and academic in nature.
"It should be evaluated from an academic perspective and not from an emotional one," Khairuddin said in a Facebook posting.
"Talk that he 'peed' himself due to Mahathir's presence at the forum is only the imagination of netizens particularly amongst cyber-troopers who do not care about evaluating in an academic manner," said Khairuddin.
Khairuddin said he had previously met Kamarul and found him to be an excellent speaker.
Videos of the awkward encounter between Mahathir and Kamarul had gone viral on social media, with many portraying the latter in an unflattering light.
Kamarul, in a lengthy comment piece on Facebook, defended himself.
The Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) professor denied he was shaken by Mahathir, stating that the former prime minister should have accepted an initial invitation for him to appear as one of the forum panellists.
Mahathir was recently appointed the prime minister designate for the opposition Pakatan Harapan coalition in their run-up to the coming polls.
Critics have made an issue with his age saying he will not be able to handle the rigours of office a second time. Mkini
