Malaysian Insight says suspending operations

News portal The Malaysian Insight has announced an "interim" suspension of operations beginning next week.
In a front-page editorial, its editor and chief executive officer Jahabar Sadiq said the decision was taken in the wake of the portal "missing a major milestone in starting a paywall".
This was because page views had failed to hit the intended "critical mass", he added.
"Hence, we need to review our direction, news operations and commercial viability.
"The decision to suspend publication in the interim is a difficult one but was made due to the challenging financial environment faced by The Malaysian Insight and other media outlets," he said.
When contacted for details, Jahabar said more information would be released later.
"The three paragraphs (in the editorial) is sufficient to explain, thanks," he said in a text message.
The questions posed to him were when exactly the suspension would begin when the portal intended to return online and if the portal would be covering the 14th general election.

Jahabar (above) later took to his personal Facebook page to thank supporters and readers for their concern.
"I'm a newsman, not the news, man! So keep calm and carry on. Thank you," his post read.
The Malaysian Insight came online on March 31 last year as the successor to The Malaysian Insider which was forced to close following financial woes brought on by brushes with the regulatory authority.
Earlier this year, the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) asked the Insight and the Malaysia Today blog to remove several articles. -Mkini
