Datin in maid abuse case barred from leaving Malaysia

Immigration DG Mustafar Ali says the department is also checking whether Rozita Mohd Ali has made any attempt to leave the country. (Facebook pic)
PETALING JAYA: The Datin who went missing yesterday after being convicted for abusing her maid in 2016 has been blacklisted from leaving the country, The Star reported today.
It quoted Immigration Department director-general Mustafar Ali as saying the department had received a court order on the matter.
Mustafar told the paper that the department was also checking whether Rozita Mohd Ali had made any attempt to leave the country.
Rozita sparked a frantic police search yesterday after she and her bailor failed to turn up in court for a review of her sentence.
Her lawyer Rosal Azimin Ahmad was also a no-show.
Deputy public prosecutor Muhamad Iskandar Ahmad told the court police had been unable to locate Rozita at her last known addresses in Kuala Lumpur and Melaka.
They were also unable to contact her bailor, believed to be a Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) staff based in Subang.
Rozita, 44, was bound over for five years on a bond of RM20,000 by Sessions Court judge Mohammed Mokhzani Mokhtar after pleading guilty to causing grievous hurt to Indonesian domestic worker Suyanti Sutrinso.
This was after a video of Suyanti seriously injured and lying near a drain in a housing area in Mutiara Damansara went viral in December 2016.
It was reported then that Rozita had allegedly used a kitchen knife, a clothes hanger, a steel mop and an umbrella to cause multiple injuries to Suyanti’s head, hands, legs and internal organs.
Judge Tun Abd Majid Tun Hamzah had set March 29 to hear the prosecutor’s application.
He said yesterday that the Sessions Court could now impose a jail term if Rozita failed to adhere to the conditions, which include providing the last known residential address.
However, Iskandar told reporters that there had been a misunderstanding in attempts to locate the bailor.
He was also confident that both Rozita and her bailor would be present at the next hearing date. -FMT
