PETALING JAYA: Police have clarified that a viral video depicting a woman being physically abused by another woman is not related to the case of Indonesian domestic worker Adelina Lisao who died in Penang on Feb 11.
Central Seberang Prai district police chief Asst Comm Nik Ros Azhan Nik Abdul Hamid was reported by The Star today as saying that police had no lead on where the video was filmed.
He said upon studying the clip, police had confirmed that it was not shot at the place where Adelina’s alleged abuse took place.
“We have also confirmed that the women in the video are not the accused in the case,” he was quoted as saying.
He added that no police report had been lodged over the video thus far.
The clip, lasting two minutes and 13 seconds, shows a woman who is crouched on the floor being kicked and stepped on by an older woman in what seems to be a narrow back section of a house.
At one point another woman nonchalantly pours some water from a pail into a drain next to them.
The older woman then takes a stick and hits the victim with it several times.
On Feb 21, Ambika MA Shan, 60, was charged at the Bukit Mertajam magistrate’s court with the murder of Adelina, 21, who hailed from East Nusa Tenggara. No plea was recorded.
The offence, under Section 302 of the Penal Code, carries the mandatory death sentence.
Ambika’s daughter, Jayavartiny Rajamanickam, 36, claimed trial to employing Adelina, who did not possess a valid pass, between March 2017 and Feb 10 this year.
The offence, under Section 55B (1) of the Immigration Act 1959/63, carries a maximum fine of RM50,000 or a maximum of 12 months’ jail, or both.
Adelina, who was allegedly abused by her employers, had been working at their semi-detached house in Taman Kota Permai, Bukit Mertajam.
She died at the Bukit Mertajam Hospital on Feb 11, one day after being taken there by the authorities who had been alerted by a neighbour.
The neighbour who saw Lisao had wounds on her hands and legs first reported the matter to the office of Bukit Mertajam MP Steven Sim.
Police were told that Lisao had also been seen sleeping next to a Rottweiler for two months. -FMT
