China ties will plunge if opposition wins, claims Najib

Prime Minister Najib Razak has claimed ties with China would plunge should the opposition take over Putrajaya.
The BN chief said the opposition has been attacking projects linked to China, which brings shame to bilateral ties.
“If the opposition takes over (the government), ties with China will become worse, from a high level to low.
“We must avoid this for the sake of (relations) between Malaysia and China,” he said in his speech officiating a Chinese New Year function by the Federation of Chinese Association Malaysia (Huazong) in Seri Kembangan, Kuala Lumpur today.

“For example, (they claim) whoever buys an apartment and condominium in Forest City would get Malaysian citizenship, or the Malaysia-China Kuantan Industry Park is part of China that cannot be entered by Malaysians.
“All these are done to shame Malaysia-China ties,” he claimed.
Pakatan Harapan leaders have criticised Najib's China deals as not being true investments, but deals that put Malaysia at a disadvantage.
In 2016, former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad alleged the government had entered an agreement with China for 700,000 of its nationals to be given Malaysian identity cards to enable them to vote in the elections.
He claimed the China nationals would be housed in Forest City, in Johor's Iskandar Malaysia.
Johor Menteri Besar Khaled Nordin has denied the allegations.
'Vote wisely'
Meanwhile, Najib also urged the Chinese community to vote wisely in the coming general election.
“You must choose properly, not based on emotions, but based on facts and reality when the time comes.
“Now we celebrate the Chinese New Year, and not long now we will greet the general election.
“I hope you choose accurately and can (continue) celebrating Chinese New Year as one country, Malaysia,” he said.- Mkini
