Salleh: The grass isn't always greener on the other side

The proverb "the grass is always greener on the other side" does not necessarily apply when it comes to comparing Malaysia to other countries, said Communications and Multimedia Minister Salleh Said Keruak.
"Take note of problems of racism and intolerance being higher in countries considered more liberal and advanced than Malaysia," Salleh said in a blog post today.
He cited discrimination against Muslim women in countries such as France and England.
"Some Malaysians complain so much about their country but foreigners who come to Malaysia tend to agree that our country is paradise.
"Either these well-travelled foreigners are lying or they see something that we apparently cannot," he added.

The senator also said that some Malaysians have fallen into a "trap" of "constant grumbling" about the country, even when the federal government does good things.
He warned that this was a classic anti-establishment strategy aimed at creating dissatisfaction among the people.
Instead, he said, Malaysians should be rational and give credit when it is due.
"Some Malaysians should not sit around and grumble for the sake of grumbling. It is time to move forward to help build a better nation." -Mkini
