PARLIAMENT | Deputy Foreign Minister Reezal Merican Naina Merican brushed off the allegation that Malaysia lost its bid to be re-elected to the UN Security Council.
He told the Dewan Rakyat today that Malaysia never lobbied for the seat when its term as one of ten non-permanent members of teh council ended in 2016.
"On (the speculation that we) failed to continue our membership at UN Security Council, that is not true.
“We never lobbied for (the seat), our term is only two years, which ended in 2016," he said.
"In the of the UN Security Council, no country has become a non-permanent member for two consecutive terms," he added.
