Minister in the PM’s Department Azalina Othman Said says the commission applied for RM450 million.
KUALA LUMPUR: The federal government has given a total of RM402 million to the Election Commission (EC) for the general election next year.
Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Azalina Othman Said said on top of the RM320 million initially given, RM82 million was given this year for early preparation.
“The EC had applied for a total of RM450 million.
“The EC will apply for additional funds from the finance ministry if there is any contingency,” she said in a written reply to Wong Ling Biu (DAP-Sarikei) on Nov 14.
Wong had asked how much was being given to the EC for the 14th general election (GE14), and how much had been spent in the 13th general election (GE13).
To the latter question, Azalina (BN-Pengerang) said the total allocation for GE13 was RM460 million.
Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi had recently said that GE14 would be held in 180 days. -FMT
