PAS says bye-bye to Mahfuz, drops him from GE14 list

Kedah PAS is saying "bye-bye" to Pokok Sena MP Mahfuz Omar, who will not be nominated by the party in the upcoming 14th general election (GE14).
Kedah PAS deputy commissioner Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor said Mahfuz was seen to be to close to rival Pakatan Harapan.
"If he is already with Harapan, surely he won't be a PAS candidate, no way.
"I can confirm that he is not in (PAS') list of candidates for the upcoming GE14. He can find another platform.
"Whether or not he announces openly that he has left PAS, we (will) just say 'bye-bye'," Muhammad Sanusi said at a press conference in Kedah today.
Mahfuz and three other PAS state assemblypersons were spotted at Amanah's national convention in Alor Setar today.
Mahfuz had said that unlike PAS' Gagasan Sejahtera, Harapan has shown a commitment to political change.
Asked if any action would be taken against Mahfuz, Muhammad Sanusi said that would be up to central PAS leadership.
When contacted to respond to Muhammad Sanusi's announcement, Mahfuz reiterated that he would not leave the party.
"I want to send a message to PAS members that they don't have to leave PAS and join any Harapan parties, but what is important is for them to support Harapan," he told Malaysiakini.
He also said that it was not important whether or not he was a candidate in GE14.
"The goal of my struggle is not to be a candidate but to ensure a shift in political power in this country," he said.
Mahfuz has been an outcast in PAS since the party split from the rest of the opposition in 2015.

The Pokok Sena MP was not even invited to this year's PAS muktamar which was held in Kedah.
Meanwhile, Muhammad Sanusi said PAS will be contesting 36 state seats and 15 parliamentary seats in Kedah.
"PAS is in top form to capture Kedah from BN and we will fight in all seats. If Harapan wants to contest, go ahead, we will fight in three or four corners," he said. -Mkini
