Kit Siang: Najib's joke indicates Umno hand behind flying chairs

Lim Kit Siang has expressed regret that Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak has yet to condemn the ruckus during Sunday's "Nothing to Hide 2" forum in Shah Alam.
Najib, he said, should have been the first to denounce the incident.
However, the DAP leader pointed out that instead of condemning the fracas, the prime minister chose to joke about it.
“It is even more regrettable that Najib made a joke of it, referring to 'flying chairs' during his visit to PKR leader Anwar Ibrahim's stronghold of Permatang Pauh.
“Isn't this the strongest indication of high-level Umno hand in the thuggish ruckus and riot at the forum in Shah Alam, where there were rowdy and 'samseng' behaviour...?
“The rowdy and thuggish ruckus and the disrespect shown to former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad is most regrettable but the failure of the prime minister up to now to condemn such rowdy and thuggish behaviour is doubly regrettable,” he added in a statement this evening.
The forum came to an abrupt end when a ruckus erupted as Mahathir was answering a question about the Memali incident.
Several people in the audience lit flares, threw chairs and slippers.
Mahathir and the opposition claimed that the objects were thrown in the direction of the former premier and blamed Najib as well as Umno for the incident.
Umno leaders, however, claimed that the incident was sparked off due to dissatisfaction over Mahathir's answer regarding Memali.
Another version was from Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) Youth members who claimed that the chairs were thrown at them for asking Mahathir difficult questions.

During his visit to Permatang Pauh in Penang yesterday, Najib joked about the incident, suggesting that it stemmed from Mahathir's penchant for making U-turns despite not naming the former premier.
"Don't say one thing now and another tomorrow. Who made the U-turn?" he asked, laughing.
"That is why so many chairs flew that day. Thank God, no chairs flew today," he quipped. - Mkini
