Ku Nan: Dress 'shabby' remark was just a joke

Federal Territories Minister Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor said his advise that women should dress 'comot' (shabbily) to avoid unwanted attention was just a joke.
"The last time, I made a joke with a young lady that I knew, I was joking, in my heart I was joking, I told her that if she dressed prettily - not seductively, she would attract unwanted attention.
"I was joking, but the opposition twisted my words, looking to create trouble," Tengku Adnan told a crowd in Putrajaya tonight.
He was speaking at a National Transformation 2050 (TN50) dialogue with Putrajaya residents.
He said this while explaining how he liked to joke, but felt that he should guard his words tonight.

Tengku Adnan had said on May 17 that women who wish to avoid being harassed in public should dress in a shabby manner.
He had said this during a TN50 dialogue in Bandar Tun Razak, Kuala Lumpur, in response to a woman who expressed concern about public safety.
“It's because you're so beautiful. The next time you go out, wear more comot (shabby) clothes,” he had quipped, after the woman expressed concern about robberies, kidnapping and being disturbed in public.
The remark courted backlash from various quarters. - Mkini
