PAS Muslimat: Cut down PM's, cabinet ministers' allowances

MUKTAMAR | The women’s wing of PAS has called on the federal government to show a good example in managing the country’s expenditure by cutting down on the allowances for the prime minister, his deputy and other ministers in the cabinet.
Without elaborating on this, the wing’s chief Nuridah Mohd Salleh said the federal government should emulate the good example shown by the Kelantan government led by PAS.
She strongly registered the wing’s criticism of Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak for giving the people “false hopes”, when he tried to allay the people’s concerns, on Dec 9 last year, by saying the ringgit’s value would improve.
At the time, the ringgit was valued at RM4.40 to US$1, but the situation has not improved yet, Nuridah said.
“It’s clear that the confidence he tried to give was just to console people’s hearts,” she said in her speech at the assembly of the Muslimat PAS at the party’s 57th Muktamar in Alor Setar today.
Nuridah said it seemed there was no guarantee that the ringgit’s value would improve, even though oil prices may stabilise, come 2018.
“This is in the BN government’s hopes for a winning formula to win the GE14. Actually, they themselves are not sure.”

Nuridah also slammed BR1M as a one off, short-term effort which she described as populist and cosmestic, and not a holistic way to help the poor.
“Giving RM1,200 per individual means RM100 a month annually, which works out to be only 2.6 percent of the average income of those in the B40 category (average income of RM3,855 per month).
“The government gives 2.6 percent with the right hand and takes back six percent in terms of the goods and services tax (GST),” she added.- Mkini
