I'll cooperate with agencies, Rahman says after duo's revelation

Former housing, local government and urban wellbeing minister Abdul Rahman Dahlan has reiterated his pledge to cooperate with enforcement agencies on the allegations of abuse of power against him.
His comments came after two DAP grassroots leaders - Satees Muniandy and David Marshall - revealed documents that purportedly supported their claim that Abdul Rahman had abused his power in relation to a high-profile housing case.
“I’m more than happy to cooperate with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) and the police. We know all the documents they (Satees and David) have been talking about.
“We have our own opinion about these documents, and we will wait and see and we will share our opinions with the relevant authorities.
“I’m very confident that at the end of it, there is no wrongdoing as alleged by the DAP on the issue,” said Abdul Rahman, who is now the Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department in charge of the Economic Planning Unit.
He was speaking at a press conference in Shah Alam after attending the Peneraju Profesional CFA (chartered financial analysts) Annual Summit 2017.
Satees and David had lodged a police report against Abdul Rahman on Feb 28, followed by a report to the MACC on March 6.
They said Abdul Rahman had abused his power by approving an extension of time (EOT) request by developer BHL Construction Sdn Bhd in 2015 for its Palace Court project in Cheras.
A total of 104 homebuyers were affected by the decision, which came to light after the Kuala Lumpur High Court ruled that the minister had acted beyond the powers provided by the Housing Development Act.
They also claimed that attorney-general Mohd Apandi Ali’s wife, Faridah Begum KA Abdul Kader, had written the request for the EOT to Abdul Rahman on the pretext of being BHL Construction’s director, even though she supposedly did not hold the post.
Neither Faridah nor Apandi had responded to Malaysiakini’s attempts to contact them for comments on the allegation.
Yesterday, Satees and David released documents that they claimed would support their allegations.

Today, Abdul Rahman maintained that he as the housing minister at the time had the power to give EOTs, and he had acted within the law. His former ministry’s next step is to appeal against the court decision.
Abdul Rahman is currently the Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department in charge of the Economic Planning Unit.
He added that if he were to rebut Satees's and David’s allegations, it would only start a never-ending exchange. Hence, he was allowing the duo to speak on the issue while authorities conducted their investigations.- Mkini
