Rafizi cites PMO letter on bankruptcy, Madinah's husband explains

Certain quarters have cast aspersion on the appointment of Madinah Mohamad as the next auditor-general due to her husband having gone on record to state he would sacrifice his life for Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak.
PKR lawmaker Rafizi Ramli recalled a letter he had exposed on social media last May from the Prime Minister's Office to the Malaysian Building Society Berhad (MBSB), which relates to Madinah's husband Rizuan Abdul Hamid.
Rizuan, who is also Kepong Umno division chief, admitted that Najib did in fact attempt to assist him in settling his RM12 million loan issue outside court two years ago.
However, he denied that the letter penned by the prime minister's chief private secretary Shukry Mohd Salleh was meant to set aside the bankruptcy notice against him.
"Najib did not ask to set aside (my) bankruptcy issue, he only asked MBSB to discuss and look for a resolution," he told Malaysiakini.
PM didn't interfere
Rizuan said the letter obtained by Rafizi was merely a cover letter and Najib had included a note asking for an out of court resolution on another page.
"Najib never interfered in MBSB's affairs. If Najib had interfered, MBSB wouldn't have sued me three times before I settled the loan...," he added.
The title of the letter with the PMO letterhead dated Oct 20, 2015 stated "Request to order MBSB to set aside bankruptcy notice and to resolve the bank loan outside of court".
The letter stated that Rizuan had appealed for the prime minister's help over this matter, with regard to the construction of 10 bungalows in Bukit Tunku, Kuala Lumpur.
Rafizi: He is indebted
Meanwhile, Rizuan told Malaysiakini that he had sought assistance from the prime minister when he was unable to service the loan and interest after acting as a guarantor for his friend, a company director.
"My friend wanted to get a loan from MBSB to build 10 bungalows, but another company pulled out from the joint venture agreement when they were in a bad position and wanted to collect the money.
"I went to see Datuk Seri Najib and asked Najib to tell MBSB to settle outside (court) because we can pay.
"I was innocent, I had nothing to do with the company, I was only helping my friend," he said, adding that the sum was settled after selling off land worth RM30 million.

Rafizi, on the other hand, claimed the letter showed that Rizuan is indebted to the prime minister.
Due to this, he said, Madinah would not pass the test of public perception.
"I would imagine that her first priority is to dispell any skepticism and she can only do that if she demonstrates independence when it comes to Najib and 1MDB," he added.
Therefore, the PKR leader urged Madinah to reopen the audit on 1MDB and to file reports in the event last year's audit report indicated wrongdoings.
