MALAYSIA NOW A WORLD HUB FOR POLITICAL ASSASSINATIONS? ‘IRRESPONSIBLE’ NAJIB REGIME SLAMMED FOR LEAKING JONG-NAM’S CCTV FOOTAGE

Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) deputy president Salahuddin Ayub wants to know how CCTV footage showing the murder of Kim Jong-nam was leaked to the international media.
“The question is, how was the CCTV footage capturing Jong-nam’s murder leaked to foreign media and showcased in other countries like Japan and Singapore a few days later?” Salahuddin asked at a press conference at the party’s headquarters in Kuala Lumpur today.
He expressed concern that the confidence of the international community in the country’s safety would decrease as a result of the leaked footage.
“What I am most concerned about is that there will be quarters who will take the opportunity to turn Malaysia into a destination to commit political assassinations,” Salahuddin added.
The Amanah leader also believes that corrupt practices and abuse of power may have been the reason why the CCTV footage was leaked.
“I am concerned over the increase of corrupt practices in our country. Those who commit crime or abuse of power, be it local officials or other quarters, are not afraid.
“As long as there is money, they can obtain anything from our country,” he added.
PM, cabinet should be responsible
Meanwhile, Salahuddin is of the opinion that Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak and the cabinet should be responsible for the leaking of the CCTV footage.
“This is because the country’s dignity has been affected as it has shown how fragile the country’s security is.”
The prime minister, he added, must provide explanation on the matter as “it is not a small issue”.
“I hope those responsible, especially the prime minister, can hold a press conference as soon as possible to give explanation and what’s most important is for the officer or anyone involved in the leaking of the footage to be charged,” he stressed.
Citing the murder of Mongolian national Altantuyaa Shaariibuu, Salahuddin is concerned that Jong-nam’s murder would give rise to negative perceptions.
“Our integrity and capability were marred over Altantuyaa’s cruel murder, the motive for which has been shrouded in secrecy until today,” he added.
A leaked CCTV footage showing the moments when Jong-nam was purportedly attacked was published by Japanese TV station Fuji TV on Sunday.
It showed a woman placing something over the portly man identified by the narrator as North Korean leader Kim Jong-un’s half brother.
The CCTV recording also showed Jong-nam then seeking assistance from KLIA2 personnel and police, who took him to a clinic.
Police later said he died en route to Hospital Putrajaya, while the result of the post-mortem on the body is pending.
