DAP MP: Don't judge Madinah because of husband's loyalty to Najib

Madinah Mohamad, who is slated to be the next auditor-general, should not be judged based on her husband Rizuan Abdul Hamid's loyalty to Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak, said DAP lawmaker Dr Tan Seng Giaw.
Tan, who is also the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) deputy chairperson, was responding to Ridzuan, who is Kepong Umno division chief, stating in 2015 that he "would die" for Najib.
"They are two different individuals. She should not be judged for what her husband said. You should direct (that issue) to her husband.
"You are (a) woman too, don't look down on women. You should bring credit to women, you have to say something good about women," the Kepong parliamentarian told Malaysiakini.
"That is (what) her husband (had said). If this is so, all women could not raise their heads high," added the veteran politician.
Soon after the government announced the appointment of Madinah as auditor-general, PKR communications director Fahmi Fadzil had questioned if she could act independently with her husband being a hardcore Umno and Najib supporter.
'She could be better than her predecessor'
Tan also defended Madinah's qualification in helming the National Audit Department despite not having a financial background.
"I don't look at the matter from this perspective. She has the whole team of audit experts to back her. It is a matter of how she utilises these experts.

"I only look at how competent and efficient she is and I would judge her by her views," he said.
Tan said Madinah should be judged from her track record when she held the posts of secretary-general in the Education Ministry as well as the Science, Innovation and Technology Ministry.
"(Who knows) she could be better than (outgoing auditor-general) Ambrin (Buang), or worse than him," he added.
Tan hoped Madinah could uplift the country's public audit system and efficiency to meet the international standard.
Madinah holds a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science, Masters of Science in Human Resource Development and a Doctorate in Human Resource Management.
Her predecessor, who helmed the Audit Department since Feb 2002, holds a Bachelor in Economy and Masters of International Business.
Concurring with Tan, BN Putatan MP Marcus Mojigoh said Madinah's expertise in human resource management could be a boon for the department.

"Ambrin has done commendable work, I hope she would continue the good work for the good of the country," said the PAC member.
Ambrin had introduced the tabling of audit reports three times a year, from the previous practice of once a year.
He was also in charge of the 2015 federal audit on troubled state investment firm 1MDB. The report for the audit was later classified as an official secret.-Mkini
