Kedah Menteri Besar Mukhriz Mahathir says that with so many rumours swirling around, it is hard to determine what the truth is
ALOR SETAR: Amidst talk of a new Kedah Menteri Besar being sworn in today, the current head of the state administration, Mukhriz Mahathir, has said that even he has no clue as to what will take place today.
He said with so many rumours going around, it was hard to determine what the truth was.
Rumours are rife that Kedah will see a new Menteri Besar being sworn-in today at the Anak Bukit Palace after a meeting between all Barisan Nasional lawmakers and the Kedah Council of Regency today.
“I don’t know. There has been all sorts of allegations regarding this issue. I myself don’t know,” said Mukhriz briefly when asked to comment on the rumour.
He was speaking to reporters after touching down at the Sultan Abdul Halim Airport here at around 7.45pm yesterday. He was greeted by approximately 100 of his supporters, who gathered at the airport from as early as 6.30pm.
Some of his supporters brought along banners with the words “We fully support Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir’s leadership as Kedah Menteri Besar.”
On a separate note, Mukhriz who is also Kedah Umno state liaison chief said the statement he issued earlier yesterday had communicated the exact words of the state’s Sultan, Tuanku Abdul Halim Mua’adzam Shah.
In the statement, Mukhriz revealed he had received word that the Sultan of Kedah and the Regency Council had taken offence at the absence of several executive councillors at an Exco meeting on Wednesday, after a group of Kedah Umno leaders began moves to oust him.
He said the Sultan was annoyed with the state Executive Council and 14 Umno divisional leaders for disrupting the state administration.
“That, you have to ask the Palace. I only relayed what was informed to me by the Palace.”
